Snuff Bottle Exhibition Reported in Time Magazine
What a surprise to read in the column entitled, “On Show,” the announcement with three snuff bottles photographed,“Small wonders – A trio of Chinese snuff bottles.” The opening sentence reads: “There’s no genie in a Chinese snuff bottle, but it’s easy to see why these exquisite little phials . . . cast a spell on collectors today.”
The article by Richard Clayton gives a brief history of snuff bottles, and their materials and symbolism, as a background to highlighting the Denis S. K. Low Collection exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore. Ian Hardy has written a book review of the accompanying catalogue in this issue.
